A medical marijuana provider wants to be a new economic driver for Sturgeon County.

Officials with Pure Selections, a small start up company in the county, made a presentation to council on Jan. 9 asking to have a piece of land rezoned to allow for the construction of a 10,000 square-foot building just off of Township Road 554. The building would be the main site for selling and distributing medical marijuana, although no actual retail sales will happen at the site. Instead, the weed will be packaged and delivered to registered patients.

Company CAO Reid Smith said they believe the county is the right place to get their company up and running.

“We look forward to working with the county and getting everything organized,” he said. “I feel it will be a good economic driver for the county and I hope we are able to answer any questions they may have to get them on board.”
